WGT 2.0?
over 4 years ago – Wed, Nov 13, 2019 at 02:08:28 AM

Yes, it's true! We are excitedly getting ready to launch the 2nd Edition of Who Goes There? on Kickstarter in early 2020.

What's new in 2.0?  There's a lot to look forward to, but the main Things we are excited about are the introduction of keys for locked events, more powerful med kits to help prevent early game elimination, and additional clarity during game play just to name a few.  Of course, the addition of four new specialty characters has me most excited.  These will be offered by way of two new expansions.

What does this mean for you and your 1st Edition Game?  Don't worry, your game will not be obsolete and you won't have to buy a whole new game.  For any gameplay related changes, we will offer an upgrade pack that can simply exchange the old for the new in your existing box.  We fully intend to make this easy for you.  The additional playable characters are optional for you as well, of course, but this is still considered a 3 to 6 player game.  The extra characters simply add specialties and variety.

No more Deluxe!  Turns out the Deluxe version most of you have with all 8 characters is a limited edition. Moving forward, we will only produce the 4 character base game with the option to buy the expansion characters separately.  We are currently out of the base game, but still have some deluxe games left that we will offer during the campaign as well.

International Backers: Our license for Who Goes There? is broken down into two parts.  Our US/Canada license is for 7 years, so we still have 4 years left, but the international license expires July 2020.  So the 2nd Edition, changes for 2.0, and character expansions will only be available to international backers during this Kickstarter campaign.  We are still allowed to deliver after that time,  which will be the case, but the orders have to be received prior to July 1. Therefore, please make sure you don't miss it if you are interested.  It sucks that it has to expire at all, but we are grateful for having had this opportunity with such a great property nonetheless.

We hope you are all as excited as we are!  More updates to come, but mark your calendars for early 2020!

COULD SHE BE THE THING?
over 4 years ago – Sat, Oct 19, 2019 at 01:57:34 AM

Hello again, WGT backers!

It’s been a while since our last update. (Almost a full year, in fact.) We know what you’re thinking: What could possibly be so important that it would possess us (tee-hee) to leave the warm safety of the camp? Well, it’s simple…

Bottletop Chicks is live on Kickstarter!

Please check out the campaign page to learn more about our newest game. For now, we’ll share this sneak peek of Akiko, the Japanese competitor.

Some say she’s so good because Japan’s competitors are always top notch. Others say it’s a single-minded dedication that only a handful of humans are even capable of. We say there’s nothing human about her; only the Thing could be that good.

Our latest game is live on Kickstarter!

Until next time!

NO MORE SUGAR PONIES?
over 5 years ago – Thu, Nov 01, 2018 at 02:51:02 AM

Happy Halloween, everyone!  As we near the end of our latest KS campaign for D6, it appears a dark secret has been unleashed.

So, now Jesse won't let me sell Sugar Ponies except for one day a year.  Halloween.  If you happen to be one of those that haven't been punished enough in your lifetime, you can order today at Certifiable Studios webstore at www.certifiablestudios.com. Otherwise, you'll have to be haunted by the Sugar Goat each and every Halloween.

In the meantime, we have about three hours left in our D6 campaign if you happen to like games that Jesse is willing to claim.

WHAT THE FROZEN HELL?
over 5 years ago – Fri, Oct 19, 2018 at 02:15:27 AM

Whaaaaat? It’s our 50th update?! It doesn’t seem like it could be an update past our...thirty...somethingth. Don’t worry—it’s a good one! We’ve got some great news for fans of WGT’s source material.

As many (hopefully most) of you know, Who Goes There? (the game) is based on the 1938 novella of the same name by John W. Campbell, Jr. The novella is the inspiration for both the 1951 film adaptation (The Thing from Another World) and John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi classic, The Thing.

Here’s where things get interesting. Rather than explain how, it might make more sense to let the folks behind Frozen Hell do the work for us. (“What the frozen hell is Frozen Hell?” you ask? Well, we’re getting to that.) The following is lifted directly from Frozen Hell’s Kickstarter campaign page:

The published novella was actually an abridged version of Campbell's original story, called Frozen Hell, which had to be shortened for publication. The Frozen Hell manuscript remained unknown and unpublished for decades, and it was only recently rediscovered. Frozen Hell expands the Thing story dramatically, giving vital backstory and context to an already incredible tale.

So to summarize…

If you like the game inspired by the novella that inspired The Thing, you might be interested in the book that was abridged into the novella that inspired both The Thing and your favorite game.

Whew.

We at Certifiable were elated to learn that there’s even more to this story we love so much. We’re backing the Frozen Hell Kickstarter, and we thought many of our backers would be interested in doing so, too.

There’s lots of bonus content in addition to the book, including a preview of the upcoming sequel (!) by John Gregory Betancourt and a metric crap-ton of other stories by renowned authors in sci-fi, fantasy, and other genres. The pledge levels are crazy-low for the rewards you’ll get for backing.

Props to Wildside Press, Mr. Betancourt, and the Campbell estate for breathing new life into the story that has captured the imagination of so many people over the last eight decades. We can’t wait to read it!

And while you find yourself caught in the world that is Kickstarter, we'd love for you to check out our latest campaign, D6!

NEARING THE END
over 5 years ago – Thu, Oct 04, 2018 at 02:38:12 AM

Calling all humans!  It's hard to believe, but we are actually nearing the end for Who Goes There? fulfillment.  If you are one of those that have not received your game, don't freak out. We are still monitoring and tracking the situation and won't leave you hanging.  Promise!

For those of you that have made WGT? a part of your game night, I cannot even express the joy it brings us when we hear your thoughts on the game. Sincerely, it's amazing.  We've had to battle some less than stellar reviews here and there, but we've also received great ones along the way, but nothing compares to hearing how much you enjoy Who Goes There?, because we made it for you. Those of you that believed in it from the beginning and patiently waited until the game arrived (or will arrive) at your door have made the journey (in all its ups and downs) worth every second.  Thank you!

Now we begin the journey again, but for our latest game, D6 (aka...Dungeons, Dudes, Dames, Danger, Dice and Dragons) that just launched on Kickstarter.

And as with all our games, we love to keep a common thread as a little reminder.  Who Goes There? makes an appearance, as a D20 weapon. We hope you'll join us, too.  Don't you miss us? *please don't answer that*  :)

Collect the bounties. Kill the monsters. Gain the glory. But most importantly...stay human!
